“Itella Logistics”, a logistics company managed by the Finnish “Posti Group”, is expanding its operations in Lithuania – it has opened a parcel and cargo terminal in Kaunas. “Posti Group” representatives claim that “Itella” will become one of the largest companies providing parcel services in Lithuania.

Taking part in the opening of the new logistics center, “Posti Group” Vice President Kaj Kulp said that the company intends to intensively strengthen its position in the parcel market.

“In Lithuania, they started providing logistics services 20 years ago. Even though we entered the parcels business much later, it has now become our main area. We have improved all operational processes and the results are very optimistic. We will strive for “Itella” to become one of the two largest parcel delivery companies in Lithuania, possibly the largest. As it is in neighbouring countries”, said K. Kulp.

The area of the new Kaunas terminal with administrative premises is almost 8000 sq.m. There is a sorting line with a capacity of about 1.5 million parcels per month. Together with the terminal in Vilnius, Klaipėda and Panevėžys, “Itella” in Lithuania now owns 12 000 sq. m. area of logistics centers.

According to the director of the company, during the implementation of the terminal management model, not only the experience of the company’s owners, the Finnish company “Posti”, but also examples of good practice from “DHL” and “Amazon” were used.

“First of all, the exceptional safety of employees will be taken care, it will be ensured by modern engineering and intelligent management tools. The terminal will also have an employee break and lunch area, separate training and game areas, and even a library. The parcels and cargo are stored in the area of more than 170 video cameras”, said G. Mickus.

As part of its green energy strategy, the company has installed a 400 kW solar power plant on the roof and electric charging stations at all vehicle loading ramps.
